This system can measure the ability of a fabric to block UV rays and the UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) of the fabric. It has a double beam spectrophotometer with an integrated sphere that is easy to operate and gives faster results. The fabric specimen undergoes the UVA and UVB regions of the light spectrum and the radiation that is transmitted in the process is collected by a detector. This component can record the spectral transmittance of the specimen from 280 to 400 nanometer in few seconds. There is a software incorporated in the system that calculates the UV penetration factor and SPF factor from the collected data. The system could be run on a PC with a Microsoft Windows Operating System and the access to control the spectrophotometer can be gained for generating the printed reports.
