AFT45 Automatic Flammability Tester – 45 Degree

The AFT45 Automatic Flammability Tester is designed to determine fabric flammability (fabric burning test) under controlled conditions at a 45° sample placement angle. It is safe and easy to operate, making it suitable for routine quality control and compliance testing in textile laboratories.

The apparatus features a stainless steel test cabinet with a glass observation panel and provides automatic timing of flame spread in 0.1-second increments from ignition. A brushing device is included as standard — essential for raising the nap of pile or brushed fabrics prior to testing as required by the applicable standards.

Compliant with IS 11871 Method B, ASTM D1230, FTMS 191-5908, 16 CFR 1610, and CALIF TB117, the AFT45 covers all major international apparel and furnishing fabric flammability regulations.

Key Highlights

⏱️
Automatic Flame Spread Timing

Flame spread timing starts automatically from ignition with 0.1-second resolution across a 0–999.9 s range. A separate digital time controller and timer are included, eliminating manual stopwatch errors and ensuring fully repeatable, operator-independent test results.

🧵
45° Angle & Brushing Device Included

The 45° sample placement angle is the standard geometry for apparel and furnishing fabric flammability tests. A brushing device is supplied as standard to raise the nap on pile or brushed fabrics before testing — as required by IS 11871, ASTM D1230, and 16 CFR 1610.

🏗️
SS Cabinet with Glass Observation Panel

The stainless steel test cabinet provides a robust, corrosion-resistant test environment. The glass observation panel allows clear, unobstructed monitoring of the specimen during the burn test without opening the cabinet or disturbing test conditions.

The AFT45 is used to determine fabric flammability under controlled conditions at a 45° sample placement angle. It measures how quickly a fabric specimen ignites and burns, which is a key parameter for apparel, furnishing, and coated fabric safety compliance across Indian and international standards.

The AFT45 complies with IS 11871 Method B, ASTM D1511871, ASTM D1230, FTMS 191-5908, 16 CFR 1610, and CALIF TB117. These cover Indian, US federal, and California state flammability requirements for apparel fabrics, furnishing textiles, and general-purpose coated fabrics.

Many flammability standards require pile or napped fabrics to be brushed before testing to raise the surface fibres and simulate real-use conditions. The included brushing device ensures the specimen surface is conditioned consistently as specified by IS 11871 Method B, ASTM D1230, and 16 CFR 1610 — directly affecting result validity.

The AFT45 uses a sample size of 150 × 40 mm (± 10%). The specimen holder has outside dimensions of 205 × 76 mm with an interior clamping area of 165 × 40 mm. The nozzle is positioned 8 mm from the specimen surface with a flame height of 16 mm and ignition time of 1 ± 0.05 seconds.

The AFT45 starts timing automatically from the moment of ignition, recording flame spread time in 0.1-second increments up to 999.9 seconds. A separate digital time controller and timer are included. This eliminates manual start/stop errors and ensures consistent, traceable timing data for every test run.

The AFT45 is supplied with one brushing device, one No. 50's sewing thread cone (used as the timing thread for flame spread measurement), sets of sample holders, one gas cylinder, and one hand torch for lighting the flame. All accessories required for immediate testing are included in the standard supply.

The AFT45 is widely used by apparel manufacturers, home furnishing fabric producers, coated textile manufacturers, export houses, and testing laboratories. It is essential for compliance with US import regulations (16 CFR 1610), Indian textile standards (IS 11871), and California furniture fire safety requirements (CALIF TB117).

The AFT45 operates on 220/110 V, 50/60 Hz at 2 A and measures 400 × 300 × 500 mm (L × W × H) with a weight of 30 Kg. Its compact benchtop footprint makes it easy to install in any standard textile testing laboratory without requiring dedicated infrastructure.
